IVF
is applicable in cases of infertility due to irreversibly damaged
Fallopian tubes and also in a series of other cases such as oligo-and
asthenospermia (= low concentration and mobility of sperm), endometriosis
(a special type of pathology leading to pelvic organ dysfunction),
ovulation disorders, presence in the cervical mucus
of antibodies against spermatozoa, so-called "idiopathic
infertility" (= infertility remaining unexplained in spite of thorough investigation).
Such cases which could previously not be remedied, can nowadays
be tackled through IVF, with reasonable hope of success.
