Generally
2 or at most 3 embryos are replaced to avoid as much as possible
the ccurrence of a multiple pregnancy entailing
a high risk
of premature delivery.
The
embryos are currently replaced between 2 to 6 days after oocyte
pick-up. They are contained in a drop of culture medium
drawn into
a catheter (= thin plastic tube).
This
catheter is inserted in a non traumatic manner through the vagina
and the uterine cervix into the uterine cavity. The embryos
are then placed inside the uterine cavity by using a seringe.
